Bio

Katie Banakh is a Naarm / Melbourne based fine artist. She completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Painting and Photography in 2010, and achieved First Class Honours in Photography at Deakin University in 2011. In 2012, she established and managed North Melbourne ARI, Raglan Street Gallery for an 18 month period, while also working at Deakin University as an Image Technician until 2017. In 2017, she attended the Winter-Sprint semester at Lunga School in Seydisfjordur, Iceland, which has had a lasting impact; diversifying and energising her practice. She has since exhibited and sold works in various mediums throughout Australia and internationally. In 2019 she returned to tertiary study at the Northern College of the Arts and Technology to obtain a Certificate III in Visual Arts, to expand her printmaking practice. Katie is currently focused on reflecting on the Covid-19 pandemic through observational realist oil paintings, one of which earned her the Macquarie Group Emerging Artist prize in 2020.
